TrentoDOC - Valsugana
A smaller east west valley than the Valle di Cembra, the Valsugana rises through Mica schists and metamorphic phyllites and just to the east of the city of Trento. As one moves further to the east, soils become more granitic with islands of basalt rising over the morainic valley floor It’s perhaps the most complex region of TrentoDOC in geologic terms with ribbons of calcareous stone straddling the valley floor.

Here as in the Valle di Cembra the vineyards are predominantly, but not exclusively situated on the northern slopes that offer a southern and southwestern exposure. The climate is moderated by small lakes that dot the region as well as winds that are pushed by the ubiquitous Ora wind during the day, then reverse course at night as cooler air flows down from the mountains.
