Oddero

Wines have really become more lively and transparent
Close to Walter massa’s
Monleale
More e marina partnership with Isabella and Pietro, first harvest is 2022, so this current release is from purchased fruit

2020 Monlia Derthona Timorasso
Lemon, floral, a bit soapy, bright, very lively has a lot of richness, lots of fruit in style, 2018 bought 1.5 h helped by Walter, high elevation, close to Roagna in Montemarzino, a little apricot,  white flowers, fresh laundry, juicy, well balanced acidity, bright, long, quite deep on the long finish, lacks detail but lovely wine with more fruit than savory character really lovely perfumes, lemon rind. 87pts

2021 Oddero Barbara d’Alba
Pretty nose, nicely floral, in contrast here its not fruit forward, sandy soil tones, dusty dry soil, plum skins, bright, very juicy fairly light weight, dried lime peel, orange rind, delicate, easy going, very clean and brisk, glug glug, lovely freshness and easy black cherry toned fruit. 87pts

2021 Oddero Langhe nebbiolo
12-14 months in oak

A little spicy on the nose, tight little floral notes, quite wildflower, wild red berry fruit, powdery chalky notes. Has a lovely mouthfeel, bright juicy but with lots of ripe tannins, and just the right fleshy edge that makes this supple and elegant though it finishes with bright, very juicy red fruits, tart red currant, red raspberry, there’s a gentleness here though no lack of structure, this needs a year in the bottle. 89pts

2020 Oddero Barbaresco Gallina
20 years plus with Parroco

Really fairly fruity and jammy, violet, a blue fruit, fairly jammy, briar, violet pastille, pink peppercorn In the mouth it is bright, medium bodied plus, very lively with open, supple tannins, fine fruit, this is lovely its really very Barbaresco, pinpoint focus and complex with great freshness and acidity, effortless balance, dusty soil tones, fine length all red cherry fruit  gorgeous gently floral and jammy fruit nose, hint of pomegranate. 93pts

2019 Oddero Barolo Classico
Just a gorgeous nose, so nuanced, delicate and high toned with sweet floral notes, a hint of blue fruit, a touch of cedary woodlands, Light, fresh, easy yet firm, fine ripe tannins, a lighter texture very feminine and very refined, lots of raspberry toned fruit that leads to a moderately long finish, gently citrus influenced flavors, love that it’s so very perfumed in the mouth, almost silky. May not be a long term ager but perfect balance in a firm style. 92pts

2019 Oddero Barolo Monvigliero
Not released

Quite ripe, mulberry and over-ripe strawberry, quinine base note, lots of candied root, ginseng notes, very nice, so smooth, such tannin ripeness, but then this lacks a bit of length, it’s front loaded, with beautiful fruit and incipient tobacco on the backend but lacks a bit of a middle. 88pts

2020 Oddero Barolo Monvigliero
Barrel sample, should be the first bottled

Much more classic aromatic with a leafiness, herbal base notes, mulberry, a slightly pink peppercorn complexity, definitely wild strawberry emerging with air. Light, fresh, much better cut, tension,  fine length, and elegance, there’s a ton of lilies here, and lift through the long red fruited finish, gorgeous, fun wine, complex,  easy with such liveliness and joy, so much on the backend. 95pts

2019 Oddero Barolo Rocche di Castiglione
Very perfumed nose, cherries in alcohol, sandy soil, roships, boney and austere, orange flowers, tight on entry, juicy and angular, very well balanced, decidedly more austere and tighter than Monvigliero, chewy, but medium bodied with a fine balance of tension and elegance, long, tight, great energy. This will need plenty of time to mature .  Extract of rose. 93pts

Since 18 move crus in chests after destemming, not pumped, slight carbonic begins, fermentation starts easier

2019 Oddero Barolo Villero
Riper fruit, riper green herbal accents, black cherry, plum, a warmth to the fruit, slightly spicy baking spices, wild berry fruits, sassafras, green tobacco, candied flowers, a hint of cardamom/coriander,  Austere but flatter on the palate than the Rocche, it’s transparent, lovely stage of ripeness red fruit and herbs, tannins are a bit rawer than Rocche, this has more flesh to it, a more front loaded expression of fruit, more compressed, the layers are more difficult to differentiate, tannins clip the finish Very fruit driven tannins will resolve 94pts

2019 Oddero Barolo Brunate
Darker earth, moist earth, plummy fruit, a gentle spiced aspect, some cut grass notes, a touch of hickory, fairly full bodied, certainly the roundest and richest of these first crus. Dark cherry fruit, rich with round tannins, another wine that is front loaded, tight great depth on the palate, gorgeous purity and richness of fruit, really packed but at the same time embryonic, real finesse for the vineyard, juicy but integrated acidity, lovely wine that demands time. More masculine perfumes cologne, woodlands, 95pts

2017 Oddero Barolo Bussia Riserva
22-26 months in oak

Weedy, tobacco, chestnut laced fruit, almond note, a little pencil lead, complex but savory, a bit loose, nice wine, certainly very Bussia and adequate complexity with a fine texture but the tannins are a bit green, tough tannins. Macchia on the nose It is not ready, very fresh, very pretty fruit with good length, lots of Valencia orange on the back palate, gentle, quite surprising for the vintage. 93pts

2017 Oddero Barolo Vigna Rionda
Iron, very direct on the nose, so soil driven, a little gamy, there’s always this precision from Vigna Rionda, also in the mouth, juicy, ripe tannins, lots of red fruit, dusty tannins Very poised, it’s all about elegance and finance, but it lacks the depth one might expect from the vineyard, it’s lovely, with precise and soft tannins but lacks depth and drive. 92pts

2016 Oddero barolo Vigna Rionda
30-32 months in oak

Much more classic, cherries in alcohol, so pretty. Well defined fruit, just a little less obvious iron laced note but it’s so much more nuanced and complex. Grand wine, a bit beefy, pressed flowers, a hint of carob, less powerful than the Brunate, but more complex, plum notes emerge with air, nuanced floral notes, so elegant and finessed, transparent, detailed, still a bit tight, but fresh and faceted, tannins are very supple, this needs time to extend on the finish. It’s a very elegant and fine expression  of Rionda that gains length with air and a fine orange tone. 95pts

Diego rivetti langue nebbiolo is produced from unclassified Vigna Rionda parcel

2020 Oddero Barolo Vigna Rionda
Barrel Sample
A touch more weedy on the nose, a lemon rind accent, rather perfumed. Oh the texture, seamless, tannins are subsumed by the flesh which is not obvious, great depth, acids are super integrated, raspberry, so seductive, nothing is out of place, it’s a perfectly balanced equation, could well be a hunny wine.
