Burlotto, G.B.
April 2023 visit

Burlotto
2021 sunny and fresh if a little more fruity,  along with 2019 vintages with more character. And more potential for the future, 2019 very classic with a lot of energy, and tension, alcohol is lower, acidity is higher, 21 more richness and fruitiness.

2021 Burlotto Sauvignon Blanc Dives
A little spicy, cool, a touch of coffee, a bit of tomato leaf. Delicate, good depth, nice tension, nice nuanced example, more orchard fruit than tropical or gooseberry. Has a nice spicy,. 90pts

2021 Burlotto Pelaverga’
Peppery, spicy, muted, slow to emerge sweet raspberry fruit, light on the palate, pretty and pure, lovely bright feel, zesty but tight. Almost passion fruit spice, hint of guava,  very light, elegant and fresh. 90pts

Next four opened yesterday

2021 Burlotto Dolcetto
Fresh, plummy with blood orange, hints of violet, great in the mouth, light yet firm, almost chewy with a slightly inky note, stemmy spice on the backend, good length, serious style, with dark plummy fruit on the backend, lovely wine, a serious wine that does not lessen the playfulness and friendliness of the wine. 91pts

2021 Burlotto Barbera
Totally classic, ivy, leather, intense, black cherry, blackberry, classic, tense, faceted, deep fruit, so detailed layered black cherry, black cherry with a Touch of spice, lovely integration of acids, super fresh with the finish remaining covered by the fruit. Really quite aromatic for the variety. Long and resonant pure fruit that has a jammy yet not sweet character. Really long. 93pts

2021 Burlotto Barbera d’Alba aves
A touch of milk chocolate here, dark fruit with an underlying sweetness, more depth but without the ivy nuance of the base. Silky, voluptuous, rich and deep black cherry fruit, long powerful with some dark wood tones tinging the long finish. Shows a fine note of minerality on the finish as well, but lacks the cut and purity of the Classico. 92pts

2021 Burlotto Langhe Nebbiolo
Watermelon, rose, sandalwood, pomegranate, peach and orange. Quite fruity, fabulous, unfurls across the palate with excellent balance, fine grained tannins, juicy and transparent, with a gentle effortlessness. An controlled exposition of fruit which gains fine tannic firmness, edginess, and detail on the long finish. Lovely expression of classic structure with fresh fruit layers. 93pts

2019  Burlotto Barolo
Sunny summer, lot of rain early, very short peaks go high temps, some storms that refreshed late harvest
Little olive, cherry preserve and whole cluster character here, Cinnamon, rose extract, A bit tight, pretty generous if not weighty, has some stone notes on the midplate and wild cherry fruit with a little bitter citrus note,  slightly more interesting on the nose than on the palate, lovely slightly chalky tannins. A bit of bitter citrus on the finish. 90pts

2019 Burlotto Barolo Acclivi
More complexity and depth, lighter red fruits strawberry toned with a twist of lemon and a hint of stemmy character, more clay and spice almost heathery and saline. Rich, fine grained tannins, juicy with a hint of bubblegum like character here, beautiful transparent fruit on the backend, a balloon of tart red fruit wild strawberry, red currant. Very well balanced, nicely proportioned. With real energy and liveliness. 93pts

2019 Burlotto Barolo Castelletto
Weedy, here is Monforte, dark soil notes, shows a hint of wood influence a little salumi and spice, a touch of parsley root, Open, bright, great cherry fruit, supple but vertical tannins, wonderful wine, quite open and easy up front then turning tight and more focused on the moderately long finish. Darker, earthy, more herbal, dried herbs. 93pts

2019 Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero
Delicate and fine, gentle, so complex, nuanced, candied spice, a little cinnamon, allspice, sassafras, cola, quinine, Smooth and supple, mineral water midpalate, absolutely open and succulent, with fine grained tannins that linger on the palate, certainly firm and detailed if open with super ripe tannins and a generally gentle character. Small red fruits, a bit more relaxed than Acclivi, long generous and warm. Great perfumes, ok on the palate. Shows more tension with air,  the nose is just gorgeous all strawberry with a faint creamy edge, this just fades bit on the finish, doesn’t have the energy to drive through the finish. 93pts

2019 Burlotto Barolo Cannubi
A bit more smoky, gorgeous nose all finessed cherry fruit, tea, Such cut, faceted, fine texture, transparency, so fine on the very long finish,  this has tons of fruit in reserve, such finesse, tannins and stone on the finish, deep,, superb depth, salty midpalate, lovely wine needs tons of time. A much more terroir and soil driven wine, just infinite tension, with a lingering red fruit note. 95pts

2013 Barolo Acclivi
Sweet tobacco, sweet dark fruit, carob, blackberry, anise backdrop, Fairly rich, nuanced and quite complex with great tension, lots of tar and licorice, long still powerful through the long finish, great intensity to the aromatics,  gently cedary,  anise finish, already drinking well though should improve over the next 5-10 years.
